interesting papers about the work done at src, the dec system research center, which was set up 1984 and had a well known figure as director: robert w. taylor, who before managed the famous group at xerox parc and was director at arpa, ipto, where he got the arpanet project up and running.

about user interfaces, 1987

The dialog paradigm comes from the Macintosh environment [Apple 85], with roots in work done at Xerox PARC. The Macintosh Resource Editor also includes a dialog editor. However, Macintosh dialogs do not provide any abstraction: dialog clients directly access the dialog components.

The stimulus for building a dialog editor came from a timely talk by Jean-Marie Hullot about a user interface editor in a Lisp environment, which later developed into the ExperTelligence Interface Builder [Hullot 86, Hullot 87]. - first time after 43 years that the turing award invented by the assoc of computing machinery was given to someone whose primary contribution has been computer machinery. - i don't have a phd but working with butler lampson for approx. 2 years is the equivalent of 5 phd's.

his thesis:

• computer architecure has hit several wall (clock rate, complexity)=> this will require to build future systems in new ways. in designing future systems it might be worth to examine some of the decisions made in the past.

• computer science is a forgetful discipline

• a speaker at the conference has described 1994 as ancient history. so i suppose by that standards i am pre-historic.

zib und standard, man könnt aber auch sagen apa|ap|dpa machens möglich. dank copy&paste wird das wohl noch ein wenig so weiter gehen.

ebenda: bob kahn im orkus und steve crocker als tcp/ip autor. steve ist ein netter mann und er schrieb auch an den arpanet protokollen mit, aber das arpanet ging bereits 1969 mehr oder weniger online. wenigstens vint cerf hat die attacke auf die autorenschaft überlebt. ich mein falls die überhaupt von dem dokument aus dem jahr 1974 reden. egal. congrats.

ben segal meinte mal: als das offizielle europa entdeckte, das sie sich das worldwideweb umhängen konnten, gaben sie endlich ruhe, stampften die order x25 zu verwenden ein und akzeptierten die internet protokolle. das war so um 1995.
