maybe

i should have been more inside, but i had enough and heard their voices outside anyhow, when i walked by. sentences alike: "they always will stay "normal people and never be journalists", are not what i consider as listening worthy. neither: "schrecklich", they are also using wikipedia for research at bbc, how can they do that, so bad. - well then, help to improve it, you also can write there, chap!

companies like ads at search enginges and spending their money rather online; it's faster, it's cheaper, yet l there are link frauds - and two law cases in the us related to that. an old interview with schmidt

search

i guess the most interesting sentence of the day was that researchers on search engines and user behaviour operate mostly with data/statistics they can't check or re-check. they get it from few sources, mostly from search engine provider themselves.

benjamin edelman has been there, explaining a little bit more than the lawcases against google and yahoo's ad practice. dangerous keywords, organic and sponsored links" and the question what would happen, if you take search engines provider responsible for bad ads, ie that ask you to pay for skype 30$ ... well, i guess it will bring up a lot of lawyers, who try to increase their income and will end up with warning signs, compareable with what you get when you unpack your microwave.

a lot of google pashing, though. retrival effectivity and practice; somehow in between there were talks about - more or less - "stupid" users or use.

the case afp vs google revisited and the sentence from a guy from columbia university: algorithms have ethic ... it says a lot about the state journalism research is in. - or something like that.

kind of strange argument: if goole makes their revenue not with search but with their additional services=what they are known for must be bad. ?¿?

¿non lived?

seek time, run time, read time, access time, available time, real time, polynomial time, time division, time slicing, time sharing, time complexity, write time, processor time, hold time, execution time, compilation time, and cycle time. Adrian Mackenzie, Protocols and the irreducible traces of embodiment: the Viterbi algorithm and the mosaic of machine time

"... knowledge work is work that involves thinking, processing information, and formulating analyses, recommendations, and procedures" (Davis & Olson [19, p. 409]) 1985.

talking about ethnographies of code; networking, testing and moving; some nice papers in there. mackenzie explains the role anthropologists may play in all of these. also in there prolog history.
