monster

didn't o'really complain that he couldn't find a location for his crowd en berlin? well, the physicists are in town, with more than 5000 authors. 4 days of wahnsinn, but i found my hero, finally. still don't know if he will show up personally, anyhow i proudly present one abstract out of x thousand: làszlo barabàsi and friends:

Community dynamics in social networks
Gergely Palla, Albert-Làszlò Barabàsi, Tamàs Vicsek

We study the statistical properties of community dynamics in large social networks, where the evolving communities are obtained from subsequent snapshots of the modular structure. Such cohesive groups of people can grow by recruiting new members, or contract by loosing members; two (or more) groups may merge into a single community, while a large enough social group can split into several smaller ones; new communities are born and old ones may disappear. We find significant difference between the behaviour of smaller collaborative or friendship circles and larger communities, eg. institutions. Social groups containing only a few members persist longer on average when the fluctuations of the members is small. It appears to be almost impossible to maintain this strategy for large communities, however. Thus we find that the condition for stability for large communities is continuous changes in their membership, allowing for the possibility that after some time practically all members are exchanged. | tu-berlin AKSOE 12.4 Wed 16:15 EW 203
looking forward to hear.

kurzweil, oh kurzweil

even since that blog exists, you can't blame him of being concise: 2013: the human brain will cost only $1.000, that he declared 2006. 2002 it was even cheaper: "1$ for a brain", he told his german audience. 2007 he said:we will have reverse-engineered the human brain, in 2020; no, he said it already 2006 somewhere else; and now, 2008, we will have to wait until 2029, but then, yes then machine will match the human brain. new is only larry page (google), the for me strange figure craig venter (genome project) and some more are joining the race.
