no time, no rest. from standards and ngn (and the idea to make the network to an os) to self sustaining systems. wondering why i should feel the need to use a browser as yet another operating system on my desktop (lifely kernel). Take a lesson from JavaScript: It is better to be lucky than smart. forget perfection seems to be an advise from richard gabriel to programmers, if i understand it right, but who knows, i will try to find out and listen. ... web.2.0 is manipulation | terry winograd winograd has this line about three basic cognitive aspects of how to interact with our surroundings: manipulation, locomotion and communication. of course manipulation is from latin for hand and do things to objects. the first thing users did with computers was manipulation, moving objects around, drag and drop. then came the web and in its first phase it was basically "go and have a look". the surfing metapher, winograd suggests, was accepted and understood easily as long as the web meant locomotion. now, with web 2.0 we might be back at manipulation ... web and 2.0

communication came rather late, he says. its effective, because you tell others to do something, but its also a challenge for interaction designers and i add: yet unsolved.

30 billion $ for - one outcome should be - as it sounds to me - a database of human behaviour, brought to you by darpa. The digital people have to demonstrate human behavior 80 percent of the time. The facility should also include realistic offensive and defensive opposition forces capable of fighting military cyberwarriors in simulated combat. Contractors must create 10,000-node tests using government-provided configuration files and network diagrams in under two hours, and the nodes must be more than computers connected to a faux Internet.| via technews faux internet, faux plan. ...
