forgotten history or how to evolute into a picky eater

darpa, darpa. what about the man, who was serving between charles herzfeld and eberhardt rechtin on your board? what about peter franken? at least he was filling some gap between herzfeld and rechtin as an acting director. so was d. ostrander. another forgotten man, yet another acting director. richard j. barber writes about them 1975 in his arpa/darpa study, but they have been ignored in darpa's official 50th anniversary ancestral portrait gallery, 2008.

herzfeld left arpa march 1967. rechtin came in six or seven months later, which made me wonder and i asked.

herzfeld about franken.mp3 (audio/mpeg, 921 KB) , interview 07 Sept. 2007, geneva.

nsf story

about the net. well, well, it only can be a glimpse, as always in history, yet worthwhile to take a look. their ressource list says something, though.

discussion over there. ongoing.

i once got a file about who got what money awarded by nsf in regard to networking and more. dating back to late seventies going up to 2000. still need to sort out.

who spend how much for what and for whom back in the old days? a question i am hearing more often lately ...

p4p

they call it diet, the 160-mile download diet, others could say: p4p ngn p2p.

For the networks considered in the field tests, researchers calculated that the average peer-to-peer data packet currently travels 1,000 miles and takes 5.5 metro-hops, which are connections through major hubs. With the new system, data traveled 160 miles on average and, more importantly, made just 0.89 metro-hops, dramatically reducing Web traffic on arteries between cities where bottlenecks are most likely to occur.
