a few maps later

three maps destroyed, three new ones, with holes in it already. hey, streetmap producers, there are new materials out there, that can be folded also in the wind, and in all directions, without breaking in parts that soon. sort of statistical figures of the tour de july. also less kilometers as usual, 3.500. even that is a new experience, i have to admit, it has something to it.

it started all from berlin, going north on 198, a streetnumber that will be with us for a while. either directly or by crossing. first stop werbellinsee, listening to a waitress who feels stressed by serving two tables at once, also telling without being asked, that their area will be nomansland soon. for her clearly a threat, for me: exactly what i am looking for. less people at the beach, affordable rooms even at high season. altenhof. haus am see has the best view, pension poppe is what we got and was all right, too.

july2006, robert fishrestaurants? well, smoked fish would be best choice, as the others are still swimming – in a mixture of oil and butter.

a little turning and curling on the streets there and for sure a stop at the schiffshebewerk. this time with tour - and the information, that they are planning to build a new one. a little bigger, a little bit newer, a little bit more expensive ... july2006, robert

a little bit offroad training by oderberg, due to summerly road construction. we took some yellow, some white streets after "herzsprung" led us to nowhere. so we had to turn back to good old 198 heading to templin, which i tend to call a village, but was immediately corrected by another waitress in another pension "seeblick.

next day we finally brought 100km distance between us and berlin and reached meckpom. finding a not yet officially marked but nicely renewed barn to stay; at nationalpark müritz, goldenbaum, where aliens are greeting, storks, marmot - i guess, all kind of doves - ¿or are they homers? - sing good night.

the one and only aliens

streetwise no special tip. it doesn't matter, as all roads are nice, but be aware of cobbled streets. – klopfstein would be the better word for it, though ...

a real change was do to some real sport by using water roads. thanks for that - in hindsight.

back to summer

may 2006 cz nice trip through the pampa of checia, empty streets. sleeping in an old house in telc, indeed a very nice place and worth a stop; even it holds a unesco certificate. crossing borders the green way. hehe ;)

wondering who left all these caravans behind: a lake a caravan, kind of rule in czechia.

nie rozumiem

a cold, wet trip to the north and the recurring question: where to get good food in poland. i can't eat eggs with mustard in the morning or pierogi the whole week. we stayed in the countryside, got a taste of polish resorts, industry zones and stone-plastered streets, that ended in sludge. no fun if it is about to rain again and you have to maneuver a heavy machine. even the day before - although it was dry - we had to manage a street that was breaking apart and we had to get the bike out, before it completely slipped into the channel.

wondered if jocks really enjoyed privileges back then, as we slept in one of their beds: the matraze seemed to be the same since the seventies, as did the interior and the people. bedclothes decorated with rockets. no vodka at the bar, just again pierogi and a polish taste of hamburger with cabbage and watered tomato juice at the kiosk, the polish restaurant of choice. kids with blue and purple lips from the colored icecream, as in the smallest village you can get nothing but lody for sure; and these booths are easy to find unlike wine or vodka.

we were the attraction of the youngsters and a curiousity for the olders. my helmet graces the head of a slovak now, we only had to survive one crazy young driver, had some dry phases on the way and the people where helpfull, tak/ano.
