yet another study defining an universal problem

Astronomers are busier than ever: “I look at our students and ... there's less understanding and more rushing ... we're caught up in this rat race and I don't know what we're chasing.”

Biologists too: “Technology has made me one of the most highly paid, under-talented secretaries on campus. I have to do a lot more than I've ever had to do before, badly.” | nature

"the first ever"

the nicest thing of automated timelines is that you can see easily the problem with defining "the first"; as well as the difficulties to make a distinction between numbers and years: ie

laptop:

1525 - ooh la la
1975 - Since the advent of the first commercially available laptop computer
1979 - The first recorded idea of a laptop computer
1983 - Joining the argument to be considered the first-ever laptop is the Gavilan computer, which was designed by Manny Fernandez. In 1983

innovating europe

to whom it may concern:

Europe has experienced its worst economic crisis since the 1930s. The only way to replace the jobs lost and to achieve a prosperous, green and fair economy in the future is to improve Europe's performance in innovation: in other words, develop new products and services that create wealth and improve quality of life. In particular, more innovation is necessary to tackle our century's defining challenges: climate change, energy and food security, health and the fact that the average age of Europe's population is increasing.

This is why Commissioner Geoghegan-Quinn wants to listen to your ideas on how we can make Europe into an Innovation Union.

10:00-11:00 Central European Time* on 17 June. To take part in this interactive discussion, just go to the Webcast Portal at the right time.

You can send in your questions to rtd-innovation-union@ec.europa.eu, but you can also put them to the Commissioner via the Web Portal during the event. The

following languages will be in use: Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian and Spanish. | innovation union
