american physical society meets for sure it is interesting, but who can digest all these?? would like to learn more about the "microelectronics revolution" they say is currently under way, "defined by the integration of mechanical structures, multifunctional materials, and micro-/opto-electronic circuits into single-chip microsystems" (MEMS/NEMS Science) there must be one day to meet albert-laszlo barabasi. he organizes a meeting there about "the nature of networks: structure and dynamics (GSNP) This session will explore recent progress in studying and modeling the structure and dynamics of complex networks. This interdisciplinary research field has witnessed an explosive growth in the last few years, mainly due to the contributions of the statistical physics community. Topics of interest to this session include: mapping and characterizing the topology of large-scale real networks; modeling complex networks; dynamic processes on networks (epidemic spreading, search, synchronization). We welcome experimental (network discovery), theoretical and numerical contributions, and network models ranging from universal (applicable to many networks) to specific (e.g. connecting the structure and dynamics of a well-defined real network). ... have never heard about econophysics. a lot of people are faszinated lately by the small world networking theory. (duncan watts and steve strogatz). people are playing again stanley milgram's "six degrees of seperation". econophysics tries to connect contemporary physics with economy. hanappi has a paper on it: "maxwell’s demons in brains and politics. formulating the evolution of needs and values as dialectics of entropy" conference on infonomics, another of those qué words. but anyhow, some of the papers sound interesting. ... gaudi is like osx (lev manovich). he was a modernist, because he also was driven by technology, but he used it not just to be more efficient, therefore you can compare his houses with the grafical interface of osx, which is more playfull than os9, manovich explains, drinking cafe con leche y aqua. ...
