laxenburg was the meeting place of the unix guys in the early 1970, anyhow peter salus gives the institute and the computer group there even more credits, especially jim curry.

Presumably Peter Salus's research has already established that Jim Curry brought Unix into Europe for the first time, installing it at IIASA in Austria. As I recall, Jim left PARC shortly after William went there. in regard to networking still the conference proceedings from the iiasa conference on computer communications networks, 21 - 25 octobre 1974 is an interesting read. a lot of the later big names have been there, anyhow, it is one of the rare doc which mentions newhall and farmer's system of networking. at least in the comments, references and pointing out the close relationship to other early experimental networking systems:
