the beginning of the internationalisation of the internet was shadowed by the vietnam war, but "peter kirstein and his group managed the tricky waters and hosted the first international link of the arpa network in the uk", steve crocker said in his talk at ietf57. but kirstein disagreed: the war in vietnam was no problem at all: " europe didn't care about those things that much. england's interest was satnet, and that had to be an international operación. 25 million pounds was the price to switch the network in the 80s to domain names. someone can imagine what it means to get to ipv6 now, with far more users. "the first two domain names were .edu and .mit but very shortly afterwards the third one was already international: it was .uk ... kirstein about the introduction of domain names back in the 80s. ...
