every generation their predilection

nothing wrong with that, but if it ends up solely in circular argumentations, it might be a good reason to sit down and to consider similarities between the generation's favorit methods and applications instead, and where they lead to.

" ... sets of more or less plausible but entirely arbitrary assumptions to precisely stated but irrelevant conclusions." | wassily leontief: "theoretical assumptions and unobserved facts", american economic review, 1971

a kind of incestous validation, (which) has served as insulation from the socially important aspects of problems and has condoned flagrant distortion of them | ida russakoff hoos: systems analysis in public policy - a critique, 1983.

"deception is easily practiced from false recipes intended to simulate useful findings. | david f. hendry, "econometrics - alchemy or science?", economica, vol 47, no 188, november, 1980, p 390
