writing about kao he gets the nobel prize. things are popping up in a funny way sometimes. however, i try to find out who was m.e. collier, who worked as kao for itt and with him in the 1970s. although in a british lab. also of interest in regard to the stockholm decision: charles kuen kao mentioned in his talk at the telecom world forum 1975, that the original proposal for wideband transmission was written by himself and señor hockham: k.c. kao and g.a. hockham, "dielectric fibre surface waveguide for optical frequencies", proc. iee vol.133, 1966, p1151-1158. btw. ¿when did he change his name from k.c.kao to c.k. kao? ...
