once i listened to tomonori aoyama, university of tokyo, who talked about that it should be possible to re-think networking protocols without any restriction, even considering x.25 or so. at stanford they call this notion clean slate. Our mission is to reinvent Internet infrastructure and services by creating "platforms for innovations" in networking, computing, and storage and making them available to research and user communities with emphasis on mobile computing. nice budget, though ... The Stanford researchers are being joined by five full-time engineers--three from Deutsche Telekom and two from NEC. Including the value of the engineers' time, each company has pledged to support the lab with $750,000 a year for three years, a total of $4.5 million | campus and additional nsf grants as for POMI.
