darpa killed their computer-equals-brain project, aka biologically inspired cognitive architecture. their plan was to reverse engineer the human brain. it was worth some money; and it reminds me of charles herzfeld (darpa 65-67), who likes to say: "when we fail, we fail big". yet mark gluck, one of the contributers and consignees

still plans to continue his work with memory circuits of the brain | acm

this year darpa wants to bring another futuristic bandwagon on its way. although it sounds like someone watched 'terminator' far too often as they are talking about "shape shifting war robots" or "ChemBots".

... soft, flexible, mobile objects that can identify and maneuver through openings smaller than their static structural dimensions; reconstitute size, shape, and functionality after traversal; carry meaningful payloads; and perform tasks. ChemBots represent the convergence of soft materials chemistry and robotics to create a fundamentally new class of soft meso-scale robots | darpa

other news talk about a router in outer space at 2009.

lloyd wood, space initiatives manager in the global defense, space & security division of cisco. didn't know they have something like that, but its there since 2003. so far i just knew about vint cerf and the work of the jet propulsion lab how to bring ip to the moon and vice versa. back then at 2004, when compatibility stopped to be an issue for outer communications. ip evolution being isolated, so to say ...vint (audio/x-mpeg, 684 KB) .
