w-educa

there are no "real" studies, they say about academic usage of we-blog. the three cases presented at educa came from online universities. if there is a benefit for a company can be doubted, as the lady from ibm told. there are other tools around. employees of the blue company are in favor of instant messenger. since management didn't like that at the beginning, they accept this kind of communication exchange now and also offer wikis and weblogs; but people don't feel so comfortably with it to use it in a company setting yet. it's too personal, the panel concludes, you can't use the waterfall method on it.

maybe some inside and arguments at terry anderson's and stephen's page.

coates and butterfield on social software, 2002

what they said was more or less: it could lead to reflection, if you tell them how to reflect. possibility to recall an experience, adding feelings to it, re-evaluating the experience; used for dialogs - "if you have a spell checker" and rss.

they don't think it will lead to collaborations as that's were wikis are good for. if you use the wbl forget groups, think about individuals - they are pretty sure about that.

warburton quoted a book "community and inquiries", but i don't know which one he meant. his suggestion was to look at studies of the self, as erving goffman's "reflection of the self" or others ...

no sé, other topics are more fun than this endless discussion about w.

ah, no, don't stop! It's all terribly interesting.

i felt it as my duty to report to you, but: more at the price of a copa in a bar nearby ;)
hey you have students, can't you ask them to write about their experiences? - don't you have the power of homework at your side?

Theoretically I do, but with this crowd I'd rather abuse my homework privilege to let them do more stuff that has got to do with the content of the course, and not with meta-stuff. Maybe next term. (Copa will be offered in due course - if you're in Berlin over the next few weeks, maybe sooner than you might expect!)

you're right ...

and i just doubt all these distance and e learning guys.
have been into this. but on the base i doubt the underlying principles: augmenting human intellect and the likes: this figure of thought evokes a strange illusion of grandness totally different from the real enlarging of knowledge. said knowledge might be harmless or harmful alone in that it will exist in very many differently connected and even unconnected forms. ist jetzt eh alles vereinfacht ....

i thought, scandinavia, canada, australia have a tradition in that and will come with a sort of surprise. i didn't listen to all of them, but at the end i left the event with the impression there were too many guys who wanna tell me: just add another tool and you will learn better. do i really need rfid for learning? or gaze tracking? funny also those people who wanna tell me: don't waste your time at bus stations, go for mobile learning.

one chap told me a quote from the 90s: computer based training - as it was called back than - means training bad things faster.

gary woodill made a study: there are 225 companies in e-learning in canada, more than 50 content formats and more than 70 technologies ...

In Deutschland ist, glaube ich, die Fernuniversität Hagen führend in Sachen E-Learning. Deren Website ist allerdings eher grauslig.
