umtsa

woman to quote on that jane zweig, the shosteck group, her talk about "the new wireless piranhas" was the best of the day. she said straight: 3g? financial burden is too high: in selected countries the costs for the infrastructure would be around 750 billion dollar. who would pay that?? 3g should go for low bandwith services, wlan and bluetooth for high bandwith services. even ricochets´ metricom and last week mobilestar went out of business, she things, it will fill the gap: it´s available now. it will add some value: complement technology, the name it here. well the frequences wlan is using is free. so there are some political questions envolved as well as security.

takeshi natsuni - it´s a shame, but the ntt docomo people are as strict in not giving interviews as telefonica - wasn´t as harsh at the umts community as he was in germany, but he said something the people here don´t like to hear: we have to get more of the internet way of thinking into the mobile world. normalmente these guys just say: keep those people out, because they have the notion: everything has to be for free. we can´t have this in here, because we have already invested too much."

it´s data, java, mp3, html, ... a lot of plattform discussion in here también. open architecture is one of the keywords in a lot of speeches.

the location this year is a sport hall. so you have signs for dressing rooms, a volleyballnet above your head or the speeches are held in a tent. the so called important part of the conference, where the future of 3g and new business modells are discussed, is happening in a room the sign outside says: springschnur(r)hüpfen: how should i interpret that???

springschnurrhüpfen?

schnurren und ueber die schnur hüpfen? ;-) anyway, i'm feeling sorry for those people: first the immense costs for umts-licenses, then the rumors about edge, and now those people using "their territory" for cheap and effective data-transport ... must be like paying a shitload of money for a "racing horse", and later on you figure out its not a racing horse, it's a nearly dead cow ... and the only ones who got it right always mention this "internet", but where the hell is the business plan of this strange thing to copy from?

really really hard

when you want to put 2 business models on 1 infrastructure. One where you charge kids onethousand euros for 1 MB transmitted and 1 where you compete against 0,5 cents per MB transmitted: a factor of half a million. No wonder the service gap fries their brains.

business model?

where por favor is here the business model. just panic, rush and hurry. wallstreet didn´t understand it, telcos don´t understand it. they think, in future they can be the guys that are sitting up there controlling everything. they are just not the right people to do it. basta. and there was never ever a business model: just : we have to beat america. ups: are you allowed to say that today? :))
