charm of the old motzes, 14.02.2006 10:09h
lately i met people who take care about their handwriting, sending letters written with ink. using gestaltung as a whole concept. feel, touch and also including the path of delivering, leaving no place for randomness. even the stamp is choosen. the whole package displays a personal way and makes it real personal for the recipient as well. i got the chance to talk with a person who makes amazing and wise concepts how to merge new and old media. playing with indexing in a visible and usefull way i haven't seen online yet, even making film readable. i spend hours in offices without computers, reading manuskripts written on old typewriters as well as books, which were written and illustrated by hand some 70 years ago; telling the story of war and displaying the notion that the people involved wanted to make it readable, also taking care about space and amount of paper. as diverse as these experiences might be they all have something in common. they are all pointing out in one way or the other what the digital world is missing. live is more than speed. too many things are randomly delivered. a screen is just a screen and doesn't display ones personality, the real. it's just a copy. an empty shell, a "ported" alice or bob. quantum physcis is really interesting in this regard as it tells the story of a qubit as you can't be sure what it is: 0 or 1. you delete its information as soon as you look at it. ...
