parallax visualization

i have seen the nth dimension. exciting, but also exhausting, multidimensional geometry. seen and heard from a really nice educator alfred inselberg. he worked at the biological computer laboratory from heinz von foerster in the 60s and gets the coin for being the inventor of parallel coordinates.

having missed this congress is causing a peculiar kind of sadness within me. most likely a few more related postings would cheer me up considerably, even though i'm aware that

"In its function, language is constructive, because nobody knows the source of your story. Nobody knows and ever will know how it was: because as it was is gone forever." (hvf)

if

i wouldn't have to run between different worlds, i would be able to reflect more.
glasersfeld couldn't come, but they read his text:

"it's the listener who gives meaning to words. meaning doesn't travel with a signal"

"it's the listener who gives meaning to words."

I have the feeling that if Bateson could read this he would turn around in his grave. But then I don't know the context of the quote.

¿so i can already close the circle? as they would say.

.... Nobody knows and ever will know how it was: because as it was is gone forever." (via earl)

well, there should come out a little booklet with the text from von glasersfeld. "the constructivist view of communication"

what was nice at the beginning, but as it was repeated constantly it just sounded like an endless loop, were the lines: i don't know what you are saying ..., i don't know if i understood what you said ... i am not sure if i understood what you said ...
i really felt the need to find a place where i could say: i want a cafe.

My top quote of today

which might be of interest to people in this net-space-time quadrant is by Bucky:

"The physical, automatedly rebuilding, information-gathering device we sensorially apprehend as our anatomy, employed by metaphysical mind, consists entirely of inanimate atoms and is therefore entirely physical."

Also note that two chapters from the book Bates was writing just before he died have been put online by his daughter:

Hm. I guess I should start a blog :)
